Resin Paving Project at the Phoenix Park Dublin: A Monument of Remembrance recently completed by Kilcroney Paving Contractors

In August 2024, Kilcroney Paving completed a remarkable resin paving project in Dublin’s iconic Phoenix Park.

The project, centered around a monument entitled “Embrace Loop,” pays tribute to individuals who have died from HIV, as well as those currently living with and affected by the virus. The installation serves as a reminder of the contributions made by individuals, families, and caregivers in the ongoing fight against HIV.

Project Overview

The paving area surrounding the monument measures 80 square meters and was designed with durability and aesthetics in mind. The foundation consists of a concrete permeable base, ensuring that the site can withstand weather conditions and heavy foot traffic while managing water runoff. The project also features Everege aluminium edging, providing clean lines that complement the modern design. The final layer, a resin-bound surface, was applied for its smooth finish and durability.

The Kilcroney Paving team began work on the 19th of August, completing the installation in just four days, finishing on the 22nd of August. Their timely execution ensured the monument area was ready for public viewing while maintaining the highest quality standards.

Artistic and Symbolic Significance

The centerpiece of this installation is the striking “Embrace Loop” sculpture, designed by an artist from Barcelona. This abstract piece reimagines the HIV red ribbon symbol in a modern, looped form. The sculpture stands as a powerful statement, representing remembrance and solidarity. According to gov.ie, the purpose of the monument is “to remember those who have died and mark their lives and contribution to society, while also showing solidarity with those living with and affected by HIV today.” The monument also honors the families, friends, healthcare workers, and support groups who have dedicated their efforts to improving HIV treatment and care.

A Community-Focused Tribute

This resin paving project plays a vital role in enhancing the beauty and functionality of the monument space, allowing visitors to reflect and pay their respects in a serene and well-crafted environment. The collaborative effort between Kilcroney Paving, the artist, and the wider community has resulted in a space that symbolizes unity, hope, and ongoing support for those affected by HIV.

Kilcroney Paving is proud to have been part of this meaningful project, contributing to a monument that will serve as both a place of remembrance and a symbol of continued advocacy for HIV awareness and support in Ireland.

This project highlights how thoughtful design, paired with skilled craftsmanship, can transform public spaces into landmarks that resonate with deep societal values.
